The Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival: Perfect for Father’s Day

My husband doesn’t know it yet, but we are headed to the Gulf for Father’s Day weekend. Officially, it’s his Father’s Day gift. I’ve already booked a golf package with Gulf Shores Plantation. We’ll go down as a family, and he and I will enjoy a couple rounds of Gulf Shores & Orange Beach golf while the kids enjoy the beach and resort amenities. And if he’s really nice to me, I just might treat him to an extra round while we’re there.

But we’ll have to find the time, because golf won’t be the only activity on the agenda that weekend. That also happens to be the same weekend as the 9th Annual Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival. Hot air balloons and live music, plus there will be shows performed by the Disc Connected K-9 World Famous Frisbee Dog Show—I love Frisbee dog shows!

There’s a kickoff event at the Tanger Outlets on Thursday, June 13th, then the actual festival takes place June 14th and 15th. Best of all, it’s free—so the only thing that might hold me back from buying that extra round of golf is finding the time. It’s going to be a busy, busy weekend on the Gulf!

So technically, this Gulf Shores getaway is a surprise, but I’m pretty sure he at least suspects what’s going on. And he’s certainly not objecting. I’d say it’s going to be a success Father’s Day.
