Celebrating the Fourth of July on the Gulf

We’re coming up to July pretty soon, and I keep thinking back to our Fourth of July vacation a couple years ago. We spent a week in Gulf Shores & Orange Beach, relaxing (and occasionally partying) in a Gulf Shores Plantation beach cottage with much of our family. We played on the beach, took turns cooking dinners in our beach house, and played a couple rounds of golf at Kiva Dunes next door.

But the highlight of the week was watching fireworks on the actual beach. This really made the July Fourth holiday: watching the kids run around on the beach before the fireworks display started, then actually watching the display…it was quite a night.

And now I’m looking at the July 4th calendar of events and thinking of all the possibilities of celebrating in Gulf Shores & Orange Beach this year. There’s the Independence Day Fireworks at Gulf State Park, Fireworks at The Wharf with a Spectra Light Show and live music, the USS Alabama Fireworks Show with a performance by the Mobile Pops Orchestra…to name just a few.

There’s still time to plan a trip down there. We could try to re-create that last July 4th vacation, or aim for a completely new experience. Whatever we’d do, we’d be at the beach—a good enough guarantee for a fun summer holiday.
