Why I Love My Fall Getaway to Gulf Shores & Orange Beach

It’s almost time for our fall beach vacation, and let me tell you—I am ready. I’ve been ready since we planned it a few months back. It’s been a rather stressful year, and any escape to the Gulf is fully appreciated. But there are so many reasons why I particularly love vacationing in Gulf Shores & Orange Beach in the fall.

For one thing, there are some truly fantastic events taking place, like the 41st Annual National Shrimp Festival in Gulf Shores (October 11th – 14th) and the Fall Bird Banding at Fort Morgan (going on now until October 18th). I’ve been to both events in the past, and am really looking forward to attending again this vacation.

Tying into these events is the Gulf Shores Plantation third night free special. So not only will we get to enjoy the live music and good food and general festiveness going on during our stay, we’ll also get one night free at our favorite Gulf-front resort.

The weather is another reason we love the area in the fall—absolutely comfortable temperatures, warm but not hot with cool mornings. It’s an ideal setup for our favorite Gulf activity: golf. The lovely weather makes waking up in the morning and strolling next door to Kiva Dunes that much more appealing.

And while that morning round of golf might be a little on the (comfortably) cool side, afternoons still bring enough warmth for our other favorite beach activity: pool-side/beach-side lounging (and a little swimming). Should the temperatures dip a little lower than I consider ideal for outdoor swimming, no problem—Gulf Shores Plantation has an indoor pool, so we are all set.
